Sparkling Splashes

& Smooth Water

Barbara Arens

This is an interesting piece which has an impressive effect, but isn't as difficult to play as it sounds! The time signature is listed as 8/8 (8 quavers per bar) but each bar is divided up into 3+3+2. It starts off with staccato chords, with the hands working together. This is the "sparkling splashes". Then it moves into a section of repeated, smooth quavers, the "smooth water". The piece alternates between these two distinct characters.

warm up: F major scale and arpeggio
